I used the idea of wrapping bandages onto the human body From my research that Egyptians did to preserve the human body to create my large-scale pieces which incorporates a human silhouette but made through brushstroke effects to represent the bandages. I knew that I definitely wanted to continue the idea of the circular flow motion like a black hole and especially from yesterday when I created a fresh version using texture of the brush strokes that give it this depth and illusion I knew I wanted to take that further and start creating and forming my idea. So I looked back at my research and focused on mummies and the human figure. Like I said I I tend to focus on portraits and expressional art and keeping that away and starting with something completely new that I don’t practice in was quite hard so I thought that I could somehow incorporate my own personal style into this to make it a bit more personal and meaningful to me. I want to make sure that this project isn’t something that I’m doing for the sake of the project itself but because I genuinely have an interest in it and I want to take my practice and develop a father alongside exploring other techniques and artistic styles. This led me to the idea that I could focus on the face of mummies which sounds pretty horrifying as they tend to be disfigured and explicit. This made me further research into my own ideas and put together my work so I thought that when we pass away and we die we leave our identity behind and we stripped from all the things that make us us as an individual and that at the end of the day we are all one and we are the same no matter how much money, how much fame, or how much you have at the end of the day we’re all going to be the same. Therefore I wanted to involve this idea of identity in my work so I wanted to strip mummies apart and the human body itself apart from the identity it’s been attached to which gave me the idea of creating silhouettes. The contrast between the black and the white in the classic silhouette leaves a figure without an identity which gives it the question of who is this who are you what is your story? Which was something that I really wanted to put in my work especially as I’m looking into afterlife. Being reborn you are starting a new life you’re not attached to the old identity you had you you’re recreating yourself. I also chose not to use a silhouette of anyone that I knew because that would be going against my goal of stripping an identity way I wanted to make sure that this silhouette of the face with someone who none of us knew who I didn’t know who you don’t know who none of us knew. Therefore I created my own side profile from my imagination which also gets me questioning as to who this could be or who I imagine this person to be. What I loved most about this was that I created three similar developed pieces but each of them in my eyes had a different identity and some of them in my eyes felt as if they were male or female which was quite cool in the sense that the outcome has endless possibilities of what the end result can be which links back to my original final major project title of afterlife as the outcome could be anything.
