After yesterdays disappointment, I felt that Friday was a good ending to the week. We visited about 4 galleries as part of our research into a new fresh project we were assigned, "Scale and Illusion", which I was looking very much forward to. Our first stop was at The White Cube. The artwork here was incredibly modern and abstract, diverging away from traditional works and norms. Some of my favourite artists I found there were Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, who focuses one expressive figuration and how travel, movement and cultural hybridity nourishes the transformative nature of Black experience in which he uses his own Yoruba heritage, where he fuses West African mythology and iconography with Western modern art. I loved the use of colours in his painting where he had a set palette for each painting giving off one mood divergent from his other works. However one of the artists I knew I wanted to research and use in my works was Sarah Morris, who incorporates her interest within psychology and the perception of space and time into her works that she creates. she thinks of her paintings as 'anthropocene forms' as the considers the city as a living, evolving organism - functional, engineered, yet fragile. I personally loved her works the most because when I encountered them at first, my own perception of her works was abstract architecture that she had created, where she experimented with the different forms she could create using shapes. However, having researched about her after, her paintings where an improvisation of a spiderweb as their starting point creating shard-like shapes and dots of varying sizes interpreting a spiderwebs structural form. I wanted to research into her and use her in my works as she used scale and illusion within her works and made her works abstract so the viewer can create their own perception and story before being told the meaning allowing the viewer to establish their own connection with the work.
