I ended up using two canvases to paint the Cupid and psyche painting which went really well today. I started off by using the two unfinished canvases which I have primed in an opaque white colour so you could just about see through it and see the old painting. I then roughly sketch out the two figures from the sculpture that I’d seen onto the centre in the middle of the two canvases so that when the both canvases split apart you could still see them but they were just separated apart. I personally chose this idea because the story behind Cupid inside she is very beautiful but Ia was that I wanted to come by my own personal life into it and the idea of long-distance which tied on really well with the idea of travel in time and how the figures and the sculptures that were placed in museum such as the British Museum at the Wallace collection but all moved through different countries at different times and had completely lost its origin of parenthood come from in its own location and background. That’s why I chose to do this painting on a split canvas afterwards I had painted on the checks and I got all the way beyond the campus onto the borders again trying to represent that is a continuation and there is something more as the sculptures have more to them and they are lost figures which were originally once finished and had different parts to it however through time and travel each part has been lost and incomplete. I added a swipe of orange with a paintbrush on top of the figure because I wanted to represent the idea of colonisation. I wanted to show that even though there is beauty behind the sculpture there is a history behind it to and the idea that the sculptures that stand in the museum and at the galleries were once painted and colourful but they’ve been stripped off from the paint just to be blended into white supremacy and the racial I was back in the day. This was something I didn’t know and I was really shocked about when I went to the British Museum the trip had really open my eyes and I wanted to convey that ideas through into my paintings and educate people about it because it hadn’t been said in the British Museum there was not one plaque that said that his paintings of one stripped we were told through our guide and the idea that you can literally see the paint on the sculptures you can see tiny bits of paint coming through but you wouldn’t be able to tell at all without the information. Overall really happy with today and the fact that I finish my painting on time I maintain a well focus and I was just glad that I would’ve finished it on time for the crypt on Tuesday and as I had finished on time and early, I decided that I could combine my own practice of treating T-shirt or and the things I learnt from the trip to the British Museum so I decided that over the weekend I will have a think about it and start creating something related.
